Mr Sushi Japanese Restaurant (Ridgewood)

Mr Sushi Japanese Restaurant (Ridgewood) Japanese restaurant

Overview

Walking into Mr Sushi Japanese Restaurant (Ridgewood) feels like stepping into a familiar neighborhood spot where the staff already knows what regulars like to order. Located at 58-12 Myrtle Ave, Flushing, NY 11385, United States, this restaurant quietly holds its own among the many Japanese dining options in Queens. Iโ€™ve eaten here multiple times over the past year, both for quick lunches and relaxed dinners, and the consistency is what keeps bringing people back.

The menu covers the full spectrum of Japanese comfort food and classic sushi bar staples. Youโ€™ll see familiar options like California rolls, spicy tuna, and salmon avocado, but also a thoughtful selection of specialty rolls that lean heavier on quality fish than flashy sauces. On one visit, I watched the sushi chef break down a fresh salmon side behind the counter, which explained why the nigiri had that clean texture and mild sweetness people describe as fresh fish when itโ€™s done right. According to data from the National Fisheries Institute, freshness and sourcing are the top factors customers associate with high-quality sushi, and that standard is clearly applied here.

Beyond sushi, the kitchen handles hot dishes well. The chicken teriyaki comes out evenly glazed without being overly sweet, and the tempura stays crisp even when ordered for takeout. I once ordered delivery during a busy Friday evening, expecting soggy results, but the packaging kept everything intact. That attention to process matters. Restaurants that separate sauces and fried items, a method recommended by several hospitality industry groups, consistently score higher in customer satisfaction surveys, and this place follows that approach.

Service is another strong point. Staff members explain menu items clearly if youโ€™re new to Japanese cuisine, especially sashimi cuts or chef-recommended rolls. I overheard a server guiding a first-time guest through the difference between tuna varieties, breaking it down in plain language without sounding rehearsed. That level of confidence comes from experience, not scripts, and it builds trust fast. Online reviews often mention how welcoming the team feels, which lines up with what Iโ€™ve personally seen during each visit.

The dining room itself is casual and clean, with a layout that works for solo diners, couples, and families alike. Itโ€™s not trying to be trendy or upscale, and that works in its favor. Many diners in Ridgewood and nearby neighborhoods want reliability more than spectacle. Industry research from the National Restaurant Association shows that repeat customers value consistency over novelty, especially in local restaurants, and this spot clearly understands that balance.

Prices are reasonable for the portion sizes, especially considering the quality of ingredients. Sushi rice is properly seasoned and served at the right temperature, a small detail that separates average places from good ones. While I havenโ€™t seen detailed sourcing disclosures posted in-house, the overall execution suggests standard safety and handling practices aligned with FDA seafood guidelines. Like most neighborhood sushi restaurants, transparency could always improve, but thereโ€™s nothing here that raises concerns.

What stands out most is how naturally everything fits together. From menu structure to service flow, nothing feels forced. Whether youโ€™re stopping in after work, ordering delivery, or meeting friends for dinner, the experience stays consistent. Reviews across multiple platforms echo similar themes: dependable food, friendly service, and a location that locals trust. In an area with endless dining options, that kind of reputation isnโ€™t accidental.
